This project involved the design and development of an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning exhibition that features the ongoing work of practitioners, researchers and artists across Aalto University. The project was done as a part of the Aalto Digi Platform and the Finnish Consortium of Artifical Intelligence. My contribution to the project involved artistic development and support of various exhibition pieces, exhibition design, curation, film making and communication.
Our exhibition design team comprised of me, project coordinator Saara Halmetoja and media artist M Wingren.
Exhibition Design
The Exhibition was displayed at Aalto University's Dipoli Gallery. Over twenty exhibits were displayed through the mediums of new media, film, animation, interaction and sculpture.

Metal Master

This exhibition piece illustrates the work of Terho Loikkanen through an arcade game. Terho uses machine learning to develop an application that classifies heavy metal album covers into their various sub genres only by viewing the album cover and making a guess. This application is brought to life through an arcade game that challenges a human to battle against it at classifying the album covers by simply viewing it and making the right guess.

Robot Playschool

This film exhibit takes the form of an instructional video that illustrates the work of Murtaza Hazara and his approach to teach a robot to develop motor skills and develop artificial intelligence to perform a task.

The Future of AI: a discussion

In which cases should AI replace humans – and in which cases should it not? This is a discussion between those who design, those who research design processes, and those who evaluate the impact of AI solutions.
Film Conception, Coordination and Direction by Sushant Passi, Saara Halmetoja and Aalto Studios.
Filming and Editing by Aalto Studios.

Panel Discussion Participants -
Janin Koch - a doctoral researcher who studies AI-supported ideation in digital design.
Natalia Särmäkari - a doctoral researcher studying authorship and the use of AI in fashion design.
Henni Tenhunen - a doctoral researcher. She studies AI-enabled value production in healthcare systems.
