The Design Earth project, 2013, is part of the Design Earth lab, lead by Jackson Porretta. The project involves developing site and space specific artefacts and architectural pieces using completely natural and sustainable materials such as Bamboo, Cob, Sand, Rice Husk, etc. Our team worked on three projects - A set of chicken coups made from cob and bamboo for an organic farm. - An Installation for a neighbouring Institution. - A wood fired oven made out of cob, long grass and refractory bricks for Romulus Whitaker, who runs the Madras Crocodile Bank and Retreat. The project was a purely experimental and hands on experience, with a study into a wide range of natural building materials. we explored structure, form, natural finishes, textures and techniques for strong, long lasting sustainable objects.
